Introducing ISNSCE Vice President Lulu Qian

The Society’s newly elected Vice President, Lulu Qian, is a Professor of Bioengineering at the California Institute of Technology. She holds degrees from Southeast University (Nanjing, China) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Shanghai, China). Lulu’s term will begin at FNANO21, and she will assume the position of President at FNANO23 and Past President at FNANO25.

RESEARCH INTERESTS
In my lab, we take inspiration from the fundamental principles in biological systems, and make use of the conceptual frameworks and tools in computer science, to develop building blocks and architectural foundations for artificial molecular machines. More specifically, we use DNA as an engineering material to develop programming languages, algorithms, and architectures for creating self-reconfigurable nanostructures, information-processing circuits, and molecular robots that perform mechanical tasks.

VISION STATEMENT
I would like to see ISNSCE become an umbrella for research, education, community-building, and outreach activities led by community members who are motivated and committed, particularly including postdocs and graduate students. The ISNSCE leadership will solicit proposals, recognize excellent ideas, launch seed programs for initial exploration, and support the growth of successful programs based on community feedback. The activities will embrace inspiration, innovation, inclusion, and diversity. Let this Society evolve faster by introducing spontaneous driving forces.
