The Lakin Lab for Programmable Biology (https://www.cs.unm.edu/~mlakin/) at the University of New Mexico has multiple open NSF-funded PhD positions in DNA nanotechnology, including applications in biomedicine and environmental sensing.

Several positions are available; all will involve molecular design and experimental validation of DNA devices implemented using DNA strand displacement and/or deoxyribozyme reactions. The ideal candidate would have a relevant undergraduate degree (e.g., biomedical engineering, bioengineering, chemical engineering, computer science) and prior experience with wet chemistry lab work and/or computational modeling and the desire to collaborate with external partners on applications. We strive to be an interdisciplinary group, so experience with both experimental work and computation is of particular interest.

Please contact Matthew Lakin (mlakin@unm.edu) if you are interested. Applicants could be admitted to a number of relevant graduate programs in the UNM School of Engineering based on interests and past record, including Biomedical Engineering, Nanoscience & Microsystems Engineering, or Computer Science.
